Homes in the Airport Program Zone

Window and door work in the area often has to match the airport program's heavier units. Departures from runways 12L and 12R still pass over the city and Eagan. Older rounds of the program paid for sound-reducing window and door upgrades plus attic and wall insulation. The current program through 2032 is open to homes that stay inside the sixty-to-sixty-four-decibel noise zone three years running. Two-thirds of the housing was built between 1950 and 1989.

Bigger Lots Along the Bluff

The city sits on the bluffs over the Minnesota and Mississippi rivers. River corridor rules keep buildings back from any steep rise they count as a bluff, which affects lots near the Big Rivers Regional Trail and Pilot Knob. Friendly Hills, Copperfield, Rogers Lake, and Somerset are the names people use for the streets in between, and about two-thirds of the housing went up between 1950 and 1989.
