Association Review Comes Before the Permit

Exterior work in the area often starts with the association before it starts with the house. Spirit of Brandtjen Farm puts every home in a community association, and several Lake Marion and Orchard Lake neighborhoods are managed the same way. Association rules mean a Siding replacement or a new roof usually needs a color and material submission before a permit. Nearly half the homes were built after 2000.

Downtown Streets to Newer Subdivisions

The oldest streets run along Holyoke Avenue downtown and out to Antlers Park on Lake Marion, and the rest of the city fans out from there in subdivisions from the 1980s onward. Kenwood and Chokecherry Hill sit in that older ring, where the ramblers and two-stories are on their second roof, and Crystal Lake Golf Estates and Spirit of Brandtjen Farm are the master-planned neighborhoods on the newer edge.
